Do you want to see the output (i.e. is there anything in there that's not related to the disk in the enclosure)?

. Reading identify data (28-bit DATA IN command) usually works, but this does not necessarily imply that the other command flavors (NO DATA and DATA OUT commands, ATA output registers required, 48-bit commands) also work.
