Description
I have a WD easystore 264D 8TB (presumably 264D is some sort of model number) that is not recognized by smartd directly:
/dev/sde: Unknown USB bridge [0x1058:0x264d (0x3012)] Please specify device type with the -d option.
Using -d sat works.

Actually this functionality already exists and I need to read the manual (update-smart-drivedb). It also seems like the device can be auto detected.
Note:
See TracTickets
for help on using tickets.
It would also be nice to be able to provide the device type for a particular device outside of code changes, so things like DEVICESCAN can work.
