Description
Hi
How to configure smartmontools to give audible warnings from onboard system speaker when hdd is about to fail or S.M.A.R.T. is logging errors ?
OS : Debian 10 buster
All other forums only discuss how to send email when something is wrong...
Im not interested in emails...Server is at home and so am i... Audible warning will draw my attention must faster.
Is there any chance of implementing such feature ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

Create a smartd warning script which runs the command(s) of choice, for example the beep command.
Specify the script path in smartd.conf
, for example:
DEVICESCAN [...other...options...] -m <nomailer> -M exec /path/to/your/script
Append -M test
to test script functionality.
See -M exec
on smartd.conf man page for details and the example scripts directory for other scripts.

Could be implemented with a custom smartd warning script. See the above comment for details.
A nice to have feature is never "critical" :-)
