<a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/smartmontools/files/">version 5.39 of Smartmontools</a>.

of the changes and new features. There might be open issues on Linux with <a href="/ticket/21">Areca</a> and 
<a href="/ticket/22">3ware Controllers</a> (see last comment).

<li>2009-07-16: We moved our CVS-Repository to Subversion and adjusted the <a href="http://sourceforge.net/wiki/Download#InstalllatestunreleasedcodefromSVNrepository">download instructions</a> accordingly. If built from trunk, the first line of smartmontools output now reports the SVN revision date and number, e.g: <tt>smartctl 5.39 2009-07-16 r2838 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] (local build)</tt>. So if you send smartctl output, we can now identify the exact revision :-)<br /><br /></li>

Experimental support for <a class="ext-link" href="http://w3.sunplusit.com/english/products/storage/SPIF225A.aspx"><span class="icon">Sunplus USB bridges</span></a> is available now with new option <tt>-d usbsunplus</tt>. <a class="ext-link" href="http://www.jmicron.com/Product_JM20336.htm"><span class="icon">JMicron USB</span></a> to (S)ATA bridges with option <tt>-d usbjmicron[,1]</tt>. Thanks to the vendors for handing over the necessary specs. == About Smartmontools ==

The smartmontools package contains two utility programs ({{{smartctl}}} and {{{smartd}}}) 
to control and monitor storage systems using the ''Self-Monitoring, Analysis and 
Reporting Technology System'' (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks. 
In many cases, these utilities will provide advanced warning of disk degradation and failure.

 
Smartmontools was originally derived from the Linux [http://sourceforge.net/projects/smartsuite/ smartsuite package]
and actually supports ATA/ATAPI/SATA-3 to -8 disks and [http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/smartmontools_scsi.html SCSI]
disks and tape devices. It should run on any modern Darwin (Mac OS X), Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, 
Solaris, OS/2, Cygwin, QNX, eComStation or [http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/faq.html#windows Windows] system. 
Smartmontools can also be run from one of many different 
[wiki:Download#ListofbootableCDs bootable CDs or floppies]. 

Due to OS-specific issues and also depending on the different state of smartmontools 
development on the platforms, device support is not the same for all OS platforms. We provide info
about [wiki:Supported_RAID-Controllers RAID-controller support] here on the homepage
and of course in the [wiki:TocDoc#Manpages manpages].

Thanks to Alexander Shaduri, there is also a graphical user interface for {{{smartctl}}}
