     264Several chipsets in unsupported category above (e.g. ASMedia) might actually have '''firmware updates'''. Given sufficient(!) Internet research one might be able to find a '''compatible''' improved firmware which given some luck smartmontools then will be able to support. Do exercise lots of caution,though (an improper firmware update may easily render HDD cases unusable/bricks).
